Daria Rychkova

Daria Rychkova was born and raised in Moscow, where she also studied graphic design. After graduating she immediately got commissions for various magazines. But even more than her graphic work, drawing was truly a matter close to Daria’s heart: „It comes as natural to me as taking a walk, listening to music or meeting people.”

2008 Daria recognized the strength of her illustrative work and decided to follow her intuition. She has been working as a freelance illustrator under the moniker „Eyes Wide Open” ever since. German clients in particular started to notice the artist and demanded her work more and more frequently. At the beginning Daria commuted between Russia and Germany, but in 2010 she joined her husband and moved to Düsseldorf.

While Daria Rychkova experimented with a lot of different techniques during her studies, she has now found her own style in delicate line work, accentuated with watercolours. She has a certain predilection for the absurd and surreal: „I love drawing mystical creatures.“

Daria Rychkova preferably illustrates with pencils and Muji ballpoint pens. In the next step she refines her analogue drawing in Photoshop on her Wacom tablet. She especially likes to combine her work with handlettering elements.

Daria’s heart beats the loudest for children’s book illustration. A project very close to her heart was the design of an ABC-poster with animal figures for kids. In the same way she created posters with fruit and vegetable alphabets. When Daria Rychkova presented these works at the illustration festival “Illu18” she got a lot of positive feedback.

But Daria’s creativity knows no bounds: „I have a strong desire to create textiles and sew beautiful things. And I would love to create ceramic plates and mugs!“

„That looks great, thank you very much. The client really liked it too. :-) Thanks for the great cooperation and see you next time!“
