Till Wellm

Till Wellm moved to Hamburg from his hometown of Kiel when he was 19 years old: „I was magically drawn to this city, I love the harbour and the people of the North!“ – He trained as an ornamental horticulturist before handfuls of earth turned into handfuls of colour. – „It amazes me that I’m never bored when I’m illustrating and I can express my point of view in a creative and visual way.“

Till studied at the Bildkunst Akademie Hamburg and started working as a freelance illustrator right after graduation. He is inspired by the beginning of the last century, he’s particularly attracted by the fashion and varied textile and printed patterns.

Before starting on a motif, Till collects suitable image material which he then reworks either analogue or digitally in Photoshop. His artworks are a stylish mix of painting, drawing and collage, Till Wellm’s speciality. The illustrator loves creating editorial work as well as fashion and beauty illustrations and collages for commercial clients.

His collaboration with magazine Wienerin on „Future Sex“ was an exciting project – not least because of the provocative topic. A certain girly aesthetic was requested, without crossing the fine line into bad taste. – „When the illustration were done, it felt like I had elevated my work to a new level!” – Another important project for Till Wellm is the banner he designed for CSD Hamburg: “It has always been my heart’s desire to create something big for the gay scene. The idea of people dancing beneath my illustration gave me wings!“

And of course the fashion-loving illustrator would be thrilled if Vogue came knocking …!
