Shenja Tatschke

Shenja Tatschke had a great affinity for drawing early on. She started studying design and discovered her love for animation. And she soon realized: To be able to animate, you have to be able to illustrate. Developing marketing concepts and preparing layouts soon got a bit boring and she started to put her all into illustration. From then on her style developed quickly and intuitively. Illustration fascinates her because it is such an individual and aesthetic way of communicating and making complex themes and even feelings easy to understand.

Shenja works primarily digitally and creates frame-by-frame animations on the iPad. Sometimes she draws and animates with VR glasses in virtual space. She is especially drawn to excentric characters that she keeps evolving and brings them to life in her GIF animations.

Her colourful, humorous style covers various topics. Shenja Tatschke aims to make herself and other people smile and spread positivity and lightness with her illustrations.

Shenja’s working process follows a set schedule: When she has no fixed images in her head yet, she collects key points according to the topic. Then she considers what stories she would like to tell and makes little idea sketches. When the decision has been made she uses a pencil brush on the iPad and sketches out different compositions. Then follow the outline and shadows and finally she tackles the colour scheme, if the client hasn’t requested a specific colour code.

The development of the short film “5 Reasons why I don’t trust Jellyfish” has been Shenja’s most exciting and intense project yet. It began with an analysis of potential themes, the storyboard, animatica and styleframes. Months of animating, cutting, fitting the sound and the composition followed, up to festival applications and finally presenting the film at a film festival. This project helped her to develop her illustration style, better her animation skills and work through long processes.

Shenja Tatschke is especially proud of a recent client project, which was her first big illustration and animation commission. Both she and the client were delighted with the results. She was able to create and animate logos, icons and characters in her style and her designs were accepted without major changes.

Shenja would love to illustrate packaging for drinks, sweets and other foodstuffs. She is open for anything, because new challenges mean new personal and professional growth! Next she wants to draw more for the virtual space and develop face filters for Instagram Stories. We are looking forward to the results!
