Trained communication designer Maria Martin is also known as ma.mind – under this monkier she shares her won view of the world. She lives in Würzburg with her partner and their cats Azrael and Bernd. Maria has a big heart for animals, and nature is of great importance to her life. In her flat she is surrounded by big and magnificent flora and loves taking care of every single plant. – “I hope we’ll be able to move to a big house with a garden soon!”

The illustrator’s techniques are diverse: When worling analogue she prefers pen and acrylics, digitally Maria Martin enjoys working with Photoshop and Procreate. She loves combining her handmade drawings with digital technologies.

Her works are realistic but abstract. Maria describes her style as „strange but beautiful!“ – Nature, animals and her travels are big sources of inspiration.

Maria Martin created a large format map of America/bucket list for enthusiastic adventurers. Filled with more than 200 destinations like well-known national parks, hiking trails and kayak trips in breathtaking landscapes, it invites you to take a trip over the Atlantic.

Besides flora and fauna motifs, Maria likes to illustrate topics from the fields of psychology and medicine. – “Mental illnesses allow for subtle and mystical illustrations that open up another layer, that make you think and are more abstract.“ – Maria Martin is fascinated by the inner workings of the human psyche.

Focus magazine commissioned the illustrator to create images for a medical topic concerning cancerous diseases in connection with work. Maria created expressive healthcare illustrations about financial protection during long-term illness and re-entry into the working world after surviving cancer.

In future, Maria Martin would love to get to grips with animation, to be able to see her ideas and illustrations as moving images. However, besides stepping forward into the world of digital animation, Maria also wants to take a step back, to return to the physical object: “I want to see my books in the stores!”
