Belicta Castelbarco

Belicta Castelbarco is a multitalented artist. She was born in Brazil and grew up in Milan, Italy.  ist ein absolutes Multitalent. Without any knowledge of German Belicta applied to the renowned Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. After passing the entry exam she realized that she had to learn German to start studying! So she did, and henceforth attended the illustration class of professor Otto Näscher as well as the typography class of professor Volker Küster. Since her successful graduation Belicta has been working as a freelance illustrator. She lives in Berlin and has been teaching students illustration, typography and visual communication at various design schools.

Belicta Castelbarco creates all illustrative elements by hand, using various analogue techniques like acrylics, pastels, inks or watercolours. To refine her illustrations digitally, she likes to use Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and After Effects. Her magnificent collages evolve from the combination of analogue and digital creation. But Belicta’s greatest love will always be analogue illustration, especially painting.

Her international roots influence many of her works: Belicta likes to play with extremes and uses strong colours, shapes and contrasts that give her works a special vibrancy. Her detailed collages are very expressive, and especially her self-initiated illustrations are often edgy and provocative.

Belicta is very proud of her collaboration with EZA Fair Trade Austria: She redesigned the brand’s whole product line, containing different types of coffee, cookies, cacao powder and gumdrops. The packaging is very colourful and adapts the cultural or botanical characteristics of the manufacturing country.

For Civity at Afrikahaus Hamburg Belicta Castelbarco designed a wallpaper with an African motif, it now adorns the offices’ kitchen space. – „It was a lot of fun and it made me proud to see my art on a big wall!“ – In future Belicta wants to create more paintings, interior design, wallpapers and textiles.
