Sabine Israel

Freelance illustrator Sabine Israel was born in Schwerin. Her love for the creative community made her take up a total of three study programs: Graphic design and book art at the Academy of Arts Leipzig, commercial art at Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin and illustration at the Berlin University of Arts!

Sabine Israel always carries a camera and a sketchbook to capture fleeting moments and ideas. – „I’m very inspired by my surroundings, be they urban or natural. Colours are at play, shapes collide and graphic elements catch my eye.“ – Besides plants, vintage cars and animals Sabine enjoys drawing portraits the most.

With her works Sabine Israel wants to draw attention to the beauty and particularities of little details by omitting certain things or isolating others. She often has so many ideas for an illustration that it’s hard to choose one. The start of everything is a good old pencil sketch that Sabine combines with layers of colour using acrylics or watercolour on different types of paper. – „In my experience the analogue drawing is the most spontaneous and lively. Coincidence plays a big part, and certain irregularities make things interesting for me.“ – To finalize her drawings Sabine uses Photoshop to combine drawings, backgrounds and colour planes.

Sabine’s style of illustration is shaped by both realism and abstraction, and she experiments with different techniques and materials inbetween: „You can find a combination of chaos and order in all of my works. They always contain something untidy or unfinished.“
