Nils Kasiske/ Studio Topie

Studio Topie is Nils Kasiske’s studio for illustration, a busy Hamburg native, artist and illustrator.
He primarily works digitally, with the pen still being his most important tool. His style can be bold and minimal or elaborate and detailed – but always on point and with a dash of humour.

„It’s hard to explain how an idea is formed. I often have the nearly finished visual image in my head, but the result won’t always be the same thing. I enjoy working on research and theoretical topics just as much, the variety of the work is what makes it appealing. In the end it’s always a chain reaction of circumstance and experience what makes an idea.“

Through analytic-conceptual thinking, a love for new challenges, his stylistic repertoire and his experience Nils is able to take on every briefing – from complex technical illustrations and infographics to on-point minimal vector illustrations.

His self-initiated projects often deal with political and social topics. Since Nils went to Sudan in 2015 with the „Yalla Khartoum“ project, he has been spending a lot of time in East Africa, especially Uganda. He has developed close friendships with artists and they collaborate on projects like sculptures and paintings for public spaces and even football goals as abstract sculptures.

In over 15 year – 11 of these as a part of Kombinatrotweiss – Nils Kasiske/Studio Topie has realized countless projects.

He developed illustration guides for Telekom, illustrated a longstanding campaign for Opel, drew the storyboard for Fatih Akin’s „The Cut“ and emojis of politicians for the ZDF heute show. Nils has worked for most of the major automobile manufacturers and illustrated sales literature for VW commercial vehicles. As well as creating animations and music videos for NDR, Viva, Mal Élève or Viva con Agua he has done editorial illustrations for SPIEGEL magazine, Die Zeit, Impulse, Audi-Magazin and other customer magazines and newspapers. And since designing more than 240 emojis for Ergo in 2017, Nils has been our emoji specialist as well!
