Inke Ehmsen

Born and raised in Kiel, Inke Ehmsen moved to nearby Hamburg for her studies. She graduated from the University of Applied Sciences with a diploma in illustration and communication design. After a short stint at German magazines Maxi and Modern Living, Inke started working as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer in 2002.

In her extraordinary works Inke Ehmsen strives for a very specific atmosphere, to show the viewer a new side to things and hopefully surprise them. She often edits her analogue drawings digitally on her Wacom tablet. She reworks her sketch in detail before scanning and colouring it on her computer. – “I often work with many drawing layers that I switch around and play with to find the perfect composition.“

Over time Inke has set her heart on beauty and fashion illustration. This passion made her develop a sensual and colourful illustration style that expresses her lust for life. Inke Ehmsen is very much inspired by nature: „Nature produces incredible shapes and colours and relentlessly inspires me to create new patterns and combinations.” – To further develop her creativity, Inke likes to embark on completely new paths. Lately she took part in a handlettering workshop and attended a ceramics class.

An interesting project brought Inke Ehmsen to Brigitte magazine: She was tasked with illustrating the 12 star signs as female characters. – “It made me very proud to see my work in print for a whole year!” – She also designed the cover of Barbara magazine in October 2017, where she created a doodle illustration including the magazine’s namesake Barbara Schöneberger.

Inke Ehmsen’s love for beauty and fashion has fostered a desire to design images for t-shirts and hoodies in the future.
